HeavyLight is a London design studio providing web, graphic and branding design. They specialize in creating advanced interfaces, focused mainly on the media & broadcast industry.
Although primarily a Flex development role, the job requirements soon expanded to that of stand-in CTO. Duties included specifying and designing the application architecture for an asset management system as well as managing the relationship with the technical team at the end client.

Busara is a forward thinking media and web design company based in Clapham.
I was taken on to single handedly finish an Adobe Flex project that was already 80% complete. After two weeks, the first beta version was ready for release and distributed to 100 beta testers for feedback.
The second part of the role was to educate the company in Flex 3 and Flex Builder 3 so that they could continue to build upon their success.

Cable & Wireless is one of the world’s leading international communications companies.
I designed and implemented a network audit system to service 20 countries.
Architecturally, the Revenue Assurance systems were made up of the following components:
- Adobe Flex, ASP.net (C#) front end
- Case management (provided by an external vendor)
- REST web services
- Perl parsers
- SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases
The systems performed the following functions:
- Billing system integrity check
- Switch to bill reconciliation

I also deployed and configured Zentrack to serve as a help desk for supporting the main Revenue Assurance systems.

Senior Consultant/Analyst/Developer (Permanent)
Ace*Comm are a telecoms hardware supplier and software house providing equipment and software as well as innovative Revenue Assurance solutions to telco’s. My roles within Ace*Comm (formerly 2helix) were varied, ranging from straight development in .NET, perl and Oracle through to systems design and team leader. Projects I have been involved with include:
- Network Collector – A Perl application for collecting switch configuration data directly from the network. The system included a web front end for monitoring and configuring collections.
- Discrepancy Tracker – A Visual Basic .NET Revenue Assurance application for comparing and reporting on telephony data sources. The application interfaces with an Oracle database and is deployed across the Enterprise to manage data clean up on billing systems and telephony switches.
- Support Query Tool – Reporting tool for querying and reformatting data from the company application support database. This tool is primarily used for extracting data from the live database and presenting it in a customer specified format (e.g. Excel spreadsheet). Data includes web statistics, DBA statistics and monthly trouble ticket volumes.
- Zentrack Implementation – Selected, managed and deployed the company’s web based trouble ticketing system. My roles included developing specific add-ons to deal with “Critical Hours” across multi-regions/countries and management processes. Database used was MySQL with a PHP backend.
- Discrepancy Inspector – A Revenue Assurance tool used to take obscure data sources such as telephony network elements and billing systems for data comparison. My role included the design/architecture and development/team lead. The tool of choice was Oracle, with parsing performed in Object-oriented Perl.

Cartesian is made up of a team of specialists in the Revenue Assurance field. I joined the company near its inception and learned a great deal about the telecoms arena. Some of the projects I worked on were:
- Comptel MDS/SAS – A real time transaction based telecoms activation system used to convert requests from one source (e.g. a billing system) to a network element (e.g. a telephony switch). My role was to write C and Tcl/Tk interfaces to interact with the up and downstream systems. Additionally I was the lead systems integrator for three clients including diAx and Cable & Wireless.
- Library Database – An in house system for tracking the company library books. I was team lead and trainer for the application, which was written in Access (with VBA).
- Reference Data Audit (RDA) – A Java based Revenue Assurance web application used for comparing telecoms data sources. As well as application development, my role was to provide the application data from various telephony sources and parse the output. The interface languages used were Perl and Tcl/Tk.

After implementing the Zentrack system for three customers/employers, I decided to get involved with the project. I am currently working on the design for a new RIA based front end to the system.
